Celebrating Friday Photo Weekend!

You won’t have to wait another week for your next dose of Friday Photo. It was one year ago this month that Air Facts launched this popular weekly feature with the impetus of friends sending us photos of their flights home from Oshkosh. Thanks to all the readers who have submitted photos all year long. Today through Sunday, we’ll be posting a whole bunch of Friday photos, so stop by Air Facts often to see the latest.

Of course, we are always hunting for our next Friday Photo. We will continue to share the joy, beauty and fun of flying through our Friday Photos. If you have such a photo, send it our way to editor@airfactsjournal.com and fill in the text for the Friday Photo format.

The View: Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa.

The Pilot: Bob Heimann.

The Photographer: Ross Leighton.

The Airplane: Sling 2 (South African designed and built).

The Mission: We set off with no particular mission, simply to enjoy the scenery and weather and be in the air. Along the way we encountered a couple of mates doing the same and ended up having a lunch at another airfield and then meandered back to our home airfield where this photo was taken. We pilots are privileged to be able to do this!

The Memory: A “pearler” of a winters’ day in Cape Town.

*About ten years ago, after a career in investment banking, Ross turned a lifelong interest in flying into reality by gaining a private licence. Since then he has acquired a night rating, built two airplanes - a Lancair Legacy and an RV-8 - and owned a couple more. He has been fortunate enough to have travelled Southern Africa extensively in these aircraft and enjoyed the freedom they allow to visit remote places and experience the wilderness. Occasionally he writes for a local aviation magazine on these experiences and he also edits his flying club newsletter. He is married with two grown up daughters, one of whom loves flying and will one day complete the private licence she has begun.
