Not every photo has to show a stunning sunset or a towering mountain to capture the fun and adventure of flying. This week’s photo shows a Cessna 172 taking off from one of the US’s busiest general aviation airports: Scottsdale. Braxton Norwood was chasing his shadow on a gorgeous day in Arizona.

The View: Taking off from Runway 3 in Scottsdale, AZ.

The Pilot: Braxton Norwood.

The Photographer: S. Heischmann.

The Airplane: Cessna 172 – N561SA.

The Mission: A morning flight with touch-and-goes in Winslow and Flagstaff, then lunch in Sedona.

The Memory: I was working toward my PPL; it was Heischmann’s first flight in a 172. Beautiful February weather in Arizona, as usual. It’s no surprise that this state turns out more pilots annually than anywhere else in the US.
